New (Old) 21" Monitor And New Test Cases

I am now dual headed. We will see how it goes. I have the G4 and PC second display on the second monitor. The G4 stays up as long as I don’t move much. (Long Story)

Testing all the basic functions of the parsing table generation before I go any further.

Simple Sequence

“first” “last”

http://set-top.net/tests/dot/test14.png

Simple Option

( “A” | “B” )

http://set-top.net/tests/dot/test15.png

Dump Option

( “A” | “A” )

http://set-top.net/tests/dot/test16.png

Note that because of the algorithm used, we get this obvious reduction for free.

Sequence With Option

“A”  ( “X” | “Y” )  “B”

Sadly this one is completely wrong….. needs work.

Grammar Visualiser – Part III

Its pretty obvious from this failed experiment that my original plan was the correct one.

http://set-top.net/tests/dot/test7.png

By associating an exact description of the potential state, but then using transitions wrt. the group of states, I’ve created something that makes logical sense given the underlying invisible group context – but provides a visual distortion. Even though the dot notation .“sy*ntax” | “synth” signifes that we have just parsed the first two characters of syntax, a potental transition via ‘n’ to .“syntax” | “syn*th” is shown which flips the path to another lexeme being the current focus. It should really show something like “sy*ntax” | “sy*nth”

This group based view is much better and shows the above state as “sy*ntax” | “synth” and “syntax” | “sy*nth”

http://set-top.net/tests/dot/test8.png

Now that I have a basic visualiser, its time to start using it as it was intended, to help develop and debug the rest of the parse table generator.

Looks like I’m creating an extra group at the end before the terminator. I really need to have a sentinel which is a terminator symbol (phi?).

Another good website on parsing theory.

It's Funny Because It's True

“A woman has a close male friend. This means that he is probably interested in her, which is why he hangs around so much. She sees him strictly as a friend. This always starts out with, you’re a great guy, but I don’t like you in that way. This is roughly the equivalent for the guy of going to a job interview and the company saying, You have a great resume, you have all the qualifications we are looking for, but we’re not going to hire you. We will, however, use your resume as the basis for comparison for all other applicants. But, we’re going to hire somebody who is far less qualified and is probably an alcoholic. And if he doesn’t work out, we’ll hire somebody else, but still not you. In fact, we will never hire you. But we will call you from time to time to complain about the person that we hired.”

On Being Savaged By A Dead Sheep And The Future of the Labor Party

Some right wing demagogue wannabee called Andrew Landeryou has tried to take a swipe at a friend of mine and engage in political debate in several open forums, including rather interestingly podcasting.

I have to say, a podcast sponsored by Exxon? Can I assume that this is a joke by Landeryou who, sounding like a comic book villain talks with the smug assuredness of someone used to easy money, power and a “right to rule” attitude.

It is a pleasure to see Lev in action. I have no doubt he will be a future major political force in this country and do us all very proud.

First listen to this podcast… ( See: http://landeryou.podblaze.com/ “No Left Turn”, “The Podcast of Freedom” Podcast Show: Andrew Landeryou’s Podcast of Freedom #1 Show Date: Wed, 06 Jul 2005 21:34:49  )

Then read Lev’s analysis and reply.

Son, This Is As Good As It Gets – Stuff Harry Potter, You Have A Wookie Suit!

Saturday Morning – Harry Potter Zero Hour.

Went swimming then breakfast shopped for a monster suit only to end up with the Star Wars “Chewbacca Deluxe Dress Up” kit and a cool Lego computer game.

Omg!

Then on a train and off to the city to see his favorite landmark “CenterPoint Tower“. Let him wander around HobbyCo for half an hour and drool at all the trains.

Drawn to a bookstore to purchase new Harry Potter (I admit it, it was for me), get a balloon and watch a magic show (which he loved). Finally a train ride home for which we purchased an ice cream and some hot chips from Nandos.

Magic!

“Son” I said, “You have ice cream, some hot chips, a balloon, the latest Harry Potter book, a new computer game, a copy of the latest New Scientist and a wookie suit. Trust me, it does not get any better than this”

He nodded and gestured for me to open another sachet of sauce.

Someone sitting beside us lost it and burst into laughter.
