Interface is smart and simple. I don't like it. Does not seem to integrate with "Smart Folders". Feels like its been bolted on. Clunky. Try sorting by date.
Every time I subscribe to one show it takes me to the Podcasts folder. Not good when the first thing most people are doing is a bulk subscribe to their favorite shows.
Does not support BitTorrent - So I can't scrap iPodder yet because of The Rachel Maddow Show.
The Dawn And Drew show on iTunes is a week behind??
I can live with Podcasts being part of the "Music Store" - but I notice that they have gutted the "Music" section of the podcast directory. Even thought Apple have duplicated much of what is in the existing directories, their music section has 20. Podcast.org has 800+. There is a lot of fantastic new music out there being podcast. I can understand some of The DJ and Mix-Up shows may be in a grey area of legality, but there are dozens of experimental and Indy record labels that are releasing good music for free. Either Apple is not sure how legal some of these shows are or see them as competition for their music store, or maybe the labels are forcing Apple to block this music?
Maybe the free music is too good? :)
And here I was hoping to do away with the daily drag and drop.
Will use the latest "iPod Updater" to update the iPod tomorrow and see if it had any redeeming features. Any chance these features will mean that my iPod won't loose its place when docking? Any chance that long podcasts will get bookmarks? Any chance that I can dock my iPod and have it continue playing from the same podcast and same location in iTunes? Because that's what its going to take to sway me.
[UPDATE]
Not at work today - which is the home of my iPod USB Cable. I use the Firewire cable on my G4 at home - but I can't update it because its FAT32 formatted. Bah.
[UPDATE]
It bookmarks within iTunes - and the iPod - It seems a little clunky and the first few goes didn't work for me (I have witnesses) - but it does function. Actually Impressed.
And best of all - if you are playing a podcast and dock, it remembers where you were up to :)
If you select to sync anything listened to - it will delete any podcasts you have played - even if you have only played the first few seconds and decide to listen to it later. bah!
Podcasts are not accessible via smart folders or search.
I for one will not be using this - I bet the iPodder guys are happy that so many iTunes users are going to download a real podcasting application.
